Abstract
|
|
Book Buddies is an adaptation and expansion of Darrell Morris's Howard Street Tutoring Project...This book has been written as a guide for both program coordinators of volunteer staffed reading tutorials as well as for the tutors themselves. Chapter 1 explains why we believe the tutorial we present in this guidebook is an effective model for the use of volunteers. Chapter 2 provides information and tips for the coordinators who are responsible for organizing a program, for writing lesson plans, and for training and supervising tutors. Chapter 3 contains the assessment tools and information needed for determining individual children's needs. Chapters 4 and 5 describe in detail exactly what tutors need to do to work effectively with their children. (Extract from Preface)
